Lower Back Pain

- Its Causes and Effects -

Something like 80% of people will suffer lower back pain sometime during their lives. Although over 45's are the most affected group, anyone who spends a lot of time in a sitting position whether at home, in a vehicle or at work is also very much at risk.

Why do we suffer from lower back pain through sitting?

Quite simply because nature did not intend the spine for that purpose and most of us sit slumped in our chairs rather than keeping the spine in its natural curved position. Excessive strain is then put on the shock absorbing discs between the vertebrae - particularly in the lumbar region of the lower back and on the associated muscles and ligaments.

The all too common consequence is ruptured or 'slipped' discs with attendant pain and fatigue. Even sprained ligaments and consequent back muscle spasm can be sickeningly painful.

What can we do to help ourselves?

If we only maintained the spine in its natural 'S' position, then our chances of relieving and preventing back pain would be greatly improved.

The 'Posture Curve' was scientifically designed by a leading Orthopaedic Physician specifically to help maintain this ideal position in almost any type of seating.
